Indigenous Community Stories to preserve WA culture
Over the next few months, a film crew from the Film & Television Institute (FTI) will journey across the state of Western Australia, to discover the Countries of the Badimaya, Wajirri, Mowanjum and Bundiyarra peoples. It's all part of the Indigenous Community Stories (ICS) initiative which seeks to create what will be the world's largest and most comprehensive anthology of Indigenous stories. A joint initiative of ScreenWest, Rio Tinto, Leighton, Ngarda and FTI, the project has already captured 36 story collections, with the target of 100 to be kept beyond the next 100 years, at state and national storage facilities. Content collected so far includes historically significant oral histories of elders and families, dreaming stories, customs, dances, art, language, law and other cultural practices. Read More

SPAA Screen Industry Roadshow: Perth event
The Screen Producers Association of Australia (SPAA) is hosting a national Screen Industry Roadshow and will be stopping by in Perth on Wednesday, 1 May to connect with the Western Australian industry to discuss the current issues facing the sector. SPAA's Executive Director, Matthew Deaner and Manager, Strategy and Insights, Matthew Hancock will present a summary of findings from SPAA's recent industry consultation and provide an overview of key industry priorities for the coming year. ScreenWest invests in epic ABC doco series 'The War That Changed Us'
ScreenWest and Screen Australia have announced investment support in ‘The War That Changed Us', an ambitious four-part dramatised history series from renowned Western Australian producer Andrew Ogilvie of Electric Pictures. ‘The War that Changed Us' is the epic story of Australia and the First World War, revealed through the lives of six Australians. The series will be directed by Don Featherstone and is written by Clare Wright and Don Featherstone. Read More

Ausfilm Producer Collaborations: Call Out to Producers
Ausfilm has announced that dates of the ‘Ausfilm Partner with Australia' producer collaboration sessions which will take place from 5-9 June 2013 in Los Angeles. The event provides a platform for Australian producers to pitch their developing projects to US executives for specific outcome objectives (co-development, financing etc). The program will also include a variety of networking opportunities to further relationships outside the pitching events. ScreenWest will be supporting successful applications to attend by subsidizing travel, accommodation and registration costs. To access funding successful applicants will be asked to submit a travel application form at the time of notification of acceptance. WA screenwriters win 2013 Joplin Award for Best International Screenplay
Perth screenwriters Rachael BernSousa and Mary Lusted have won the 2013 Joplin Award for best international screenplay as part of the BlueCat Screenplay Competition. Their screenplay, ‘Hand Lit Match' has been awarded the top prise of the international entries as well as reaching semi-finalist status in the main competition. Read More

Call for Producer/Production Company: Indigenous Short Dramas - Deadline 15 April
ScreenWest has announced an exciting opportunity for a Western Australian producer/production company to manage the production of three, 10-12 minute Indigenous short dramas, for selection to national and international festivals. In 2012, seven emerging filmmakers completed a three month, intensive and high level short film drama and skills development program with UK short film specialist, Paul Welsh of Edge City Films and DigiCult. ScreenWest is looking to progress three of the short films to production in 2013. The successful producer/production company will be expected to work closely with ScreenWest to manage the production of three Indigenous short dramas to be delivered by the end of December 2013. Revelation Travel Fellowship – Submissions now open
The Revelation Perth International Film Festival launches its 2013 Travel Fellowship, inviting submissions from filmmakers and film fans from across the country who would like to attend. Revelation is a creatively progressive film festival and one of Western Australia's major annual screen culture events which is launching its country-wide Travel Fellowship for the fifth year. The Fellowship provides financial assistance to attend Revelation in July 2013 to three successful applicants. Revelation wants to hear from those with a genuine interest in cinema and screen culture. Applications are welcome from Australian residents over 18 years of age with a demonstrable passion for film. The Australian Writers' Guild is calling for entries for the 46th Annual Australian Writers Guild (AWGIE) Awards. The AWGIE Awards are a significant part of the AWG's 50-year history of championing Australian writers for performance and acknowledging their contribution to Australian culture.
